I have a Toyota Prius. I will be going overseas for 31G2 months next year and the car will not be used. Will the car's batteries last this long without being driven or started? Ron You don't have to worry about the hybrid batteries. They are not an issue but the regular battery will be, as it would be in a regular petrol or diesel-powered vehicle. Under normal circumstances, you could disconnect the battery because it will definitely discharge. However, the problem with the Prius is that the battery is in the back and if it's disconnected or goes flat, the tailgate won't operate. That means you'll have to climb over the back seat to get to the battery. A lot of Prius owners leave the battery connected and jump-start the car when they return. I have a new Honda Accord Euro. Recently, I had an accident and the car was fixed by panel beaters. Under the sunlight, I can easily tell the colour doesn't match. I took it back and, after further investigation, they believe the mismatch is because the Euro coat is only single-layer (because it's painted by a robot at the factory). Therefore, the original colour is clearer than the one they did. To fix this, they're thinking of respraying the whole car. Is it a good idea to let them, or just keep it as is? Am I right to think a robot's painting is superior to a human's? Tony We wouldn't leave the car like this because it will affect its resale value. With some paint finishes, it's often best to get the whole car resprayed to avoid this type of mismatch. Your insurance company will be able to determine whether or not it's the panel shop's mistake. Either way, your car's paint should be restored to its original finish, even if that means a complete respray (which insurance should cover). As for robots versus humans, a top-notch painter with the best equipment should outperform a robot. Ihavea2001TJ Magna. My mechanic says the transmission is a sealed unit and he can't change the fluid. However, several years ago,Ihada transmission flush, so one of the two is bull. I've also read that Magna transmissions should use only Mitsubishi fluids. I've topped up with a non- genuine transmission fluid in the past year and I'm starting to detect a lag in changing from first to second. It's still driveable and the mechanic says it's fine. I'm wondering whether or not I need just a fluid change or a more thorough service. I want to be prepared when I go to a transmission specialist. Mark The oil in the TJ Magna's automatic transmission can definitely be changed with a specific oil certified by Mitsubishi. It's possible other brands produce oil for this vehicle but using the incorrect oil in this transmission could lead to problems. For peace of mind, we recommend taking the vehicle to an auto transmission specialist and road-test the vehicle with them to point out your problem. It's possible you might need only an oil change/flush. DriveLIFE WANT to enjoy golf anywhere, any time? Then Ferrari's foldable golf set could be for you. With three balls, a foldable putter and leather cup, the kit comes in a zip- up bag with the Italian brand's Prancing Horse logo stitched on the side. Sure, it's more for perfecting your short game in a hotel room than anything else but at least this bag will fit in the boot of your California convertible a bit more easily than your full-sized kit. Price: $550 plus postage. Available from the Ferrari store website, store.ferrari.com. GEAR FERRARI FOLDABLE GOLF SET JARGON BUSTER WHEELBASE THE distance between the centre point of a car's front and rear wheels. Wheelbase measurements are important because they determine the amount of interior room in a car. A longer wheelbase generally means more legroom in the back seats and most luxury car companies have long wheelbase versions of their limousines. The Statesman is a long wheelbase version of the Commodore, for example. The length of a car's wheelbase can also affect the way the car rides and corners. Short wheelbase cars can be more nimble and manoeuvrable but can pitch over bumps and be less stable.
